Term: Broca's area
Definition (Myers): Controls language expression- an area of the frontal lobe, usually in the left hemisphere, that directs the muscle movements involved in speech.
Definition (alternative): Broca's area is the section of the human brain that is involved in language processing, speech production and comprehension. *
Contextual explanation: The Broca's area controls speech muscles via the motor cortex. In reading aloud, the Broca's area receives understood words from the Wernicke's area and creates the pronounced words. Thus, damage to Broca's area disrupts speaking.
