Contextual explanation: From the certain expectations that the society requires, 'roles' provides people with a set of behaviors how one can react to various situations. Gender roles defines the expectations how a men and women should behave in the society. Gender roles prevents awkward decisions by giving an expected guideline to others. For example, back in the agricultural society, the men's role was to bring food , while women stayed home taking care of children and the household. Gender roles have the tendency to limit female's rights and power, however, in modern days, women seem to play a bigger role in the society.
