Psych M.D. - Personal Space

Term: Personal Space
Definition (Myers): The buffer zone we like to maintain around our bodies.
Definition (alternative): Personal space is the region surrounding each person, or that area which a person considers their domain or territory.
What is Personal Space?
Contextual explanation: Personal space is a buffer zone that we like to keep around us; however, if that buffer zone is invaded by someone else then we feel uncomfortable. North Americans, Scandinavians, and the British prefer more personal space than the Arabs, Latin Americans, and the French. This results in cultural differences. Due to cultural differences, we have different ways of perceiving things. With this, when cultures mix, misunderstandings will occur and cause a disaster.
