Definition (Myers): The process by which the eye's lens changes shape to focus near or far objects on the retina (201) 1
Definition (alternative):the automatic adjustment by which the eye adapts itself to distinct vision at different distances. 2
Contextual explanation: Through the process of accommodation, lens, the curved and flexible so it can focus the light, focus the light that entered the pupil. Hold your finger in front of you and focus on it. Then change the focus to the wall behind the wall, and change back to your fingers. You will feel the muscles in your eyes changing the lens' shape as you change your focus.
