Term: Token Economy
Definition (Myers): an operant conditioning procedure that rewards desired behavior. A patient exchanges a token of some sort, earned for exhibiting the desired behavior, for various privileges or treats1
Definition (alternative): a system of behavior modification based on the principles of operant conditioning2
Contextual explanation: Token economies are well applied in numerous settings. For example, at home, in your classroom, or in a hospital. This specific therapy would give rewards, like a token, when a patient shows an appropriate behavior that normal people in a certain society show. The patients would gather these tokens and later change them into certain rewards or items they desire.
